Mrs. Claire Levasseur, recipient of the Deputy Medal of the National Assembly of Quebec in 2024, is a prominent figure in La Matanie due to her community and social involvement. With a background in special education and administration, she became the first director of the Volunteer Action Center of Matane in 1980, where she led for 40 years until her retirement in 2021.

Mrs. Levasseur is known for her deep understanding of the needs of the local population. Under her leadership, the Center expanded from three to more than fifteen services, including a meals-on-wheels program for people with reduced autonomy. Today, the Center offers various services such as accompaniment and transport, help with forms, and support for disaster victims.

Passionate about social engagement, Mrs. Levasseur continues to make a significant impact in the community. She serves as a liaison officer for the CISSS of La Matanie’s users and residents committee and is actively involved with the Alzheimer Society, the dance school “Et que ça danse,” and the Volunteer Action Center.
