On March 25, 2024, the province of Ontario honored thirteen exceptional individuals by awarding them the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship for their outstanding volunteer efforts. Among the 2022 laureates is Gilles LeVasseur, a professor of management and law at the University of Ottawa for over 25 years, who was recognized for his dedication to the Franco-Ontarian community. Mr. LeVasseur, a member and former president of the Association des Levasseur d’Amérique inc., has spent more than 25 years supporting various groups, including hearing-impaired Francophones in Ontario, palliative care patients, and veterans, for whom he raised funds to improve their care. In collaboration with the Toronto Blue Jays, he also helped disabled children experience the joy of playing baseball through the Blue Jay Care foundation. As an expert in management and law, he has provided free legal advice on ethics and patients’ rights issues, also contributing to the preservation of Montfort Hospital. Despite his numerous professional responsibilities, Mr. LeVasseur finds time to volunteer in his community, encouraged by his two daughters. He emphasizes that his volunteer work is driven by the desire to make a difference and add value to the lives of those in need.
